Paul still has all the musical instruments he has played over the years, and plays bass, guitar, pedal-steel, saxophone and even a bit of keys. He gets bored quickly, and has always preferred to play for shows, and events that need to be up and running quickly. All Paul’s work revolves around performing arts in some way - so he could be found playing in a holiday centre, or standing in for sick musicians in a theatre orchestra pit with ten minutes notice!
The most terrifying show he has ever done was as part of the Pudsey Bear Big Band - live on TV, when after the expected performance, the Director had the great idea to merge the band with the Royal Marines Band on the stage - being conducted by a very scary Royal Marines Officer!
When Ian Baker asked Paul to join the UK Beach Boys, he was unaware just how complex and clever Brian Wilson’s music was - and with over 40 songs to learn, there was no chance to get bored!
